In prep for Screnzy.
1. What is your protagonist? A person? An animal? Something else?
It’s a girl, but I consider her more of an antagonist. She’s quite the PITB.
2. Where does your protagonist live? Does he or she like it there?
She lives in New Providence, NJ. And yes.
3. What does your protagonist look like? Hair color? Height? Distinguishing features?
She’s tall, but only slightly taller than the average, and muscles she’s acquired from various activities and work over the years makes her build slightly thicker, though not fat in the slightest, with unimaginably pale skin that possesses a olive tinge. Her hair is honey-colored, but it’s been dyed to a brunette that's almost touching the black spectrum. She has sharp features and pink eyelids. Her right eye is hazel, the other is a blue-green, but with not too much discernible difference. As for distinguishing features, she has a scar on her upper lip, on the right side, that she covers up with a silver lip ring. It’s very small, but it’s significantly lighter than the rest, and she has a symbolic tattoo on the small of her back.
4. What is your protagonist’s favorite outfit?
When she’s allowed time off to relax, it would have to be a pair of loose jeans and her flaming red hoodie.
5. What clothes would your protagonist never be caught dead wearing?
Shorts, skirts, dresses, and heels; she’s not exactly fond of tighter jeans, either.
6. What is your protagonist’s pet peeve?
Ignorance.
7. What is your protagonist’s fondest memory?
She makes them up as she goes; she doesn’t remember.
8. What are your protagonist's hobbies?
She loves interrogating rebels and cornering anyone who thinks they’re better than she is. She also loves to invent stories about her life and dare anyone to tell her she’s lying.
9. What can your protagonist do better than anyone else?
Lie.
And yeah, okay, she has an innate knowledge of the government systems, too.
10. What is your protagonist insecure about?
Dating. She hates the idea, and whenever someone approaches her to suggest it, she goes ballistic.
11. What makes your protagonist angry?
Ignorance, stupid jokes, rebels, and her boss.
12. What are your protagonist’s parents like? How about the rest of his or her family?
She honestly doesn’t know. Her parents were both government workers, she knows for sure, but as to their name or even what they look like, she’s clueless. She does have a brother and a sister, though they’re not blood related and they barely talk. Her brother is very involved with the Government Force and is extremely official, while her sister refuses to talk to anyone below her. Her family basically sucks.
13. What's one secret your protagonist hasn't ever told anyone?
How she got the scar on her lip.
14. Is your protagonist outgoing? Shy? What do people think when they first meet your character?
She’s very stoic on the outside, though she’s really just an average person with a stupid job. When someone sees her for the first time, they pass her up – she’s not a smiling passerby, to say the least.
15. Describe your protagonist in three words:
Stubborn. Lost. Mean.
16. Pretend for a moment that your protagonist is really nervous. What does your protagonist do with his or her nervous energy? (Tap his or her toe against the floor? Hum a song?)
Play with her lip ring.
17. Write a sentence describing how your protagonist walks.
Fluid, like water; that was the thought in her walking; something that would make people rethink the very idea of seeing her – something to give an ethereal sense to her character.
18. Write a sentence describing how your protagonist stands. What’s his or her posture like?
On the job, she’s a breathing board, and the tendencies often pass over to her at-home life.
19. What do you really like about your protagonist?
I think the fact that her entire life is spent on secrets is enthralling, and just the idea of her standing outside the social norm for that time is awesome.
20. What do you dislike about your protagonist?
Mostly, that she would hate me in real life, but getting over that, that she’s more ignorant than she thinks, and that she has no life.
21. What is your protagonist’s greatest weakness?
Music and open opportunities to bring a bigger force down; defying authority. It’s like her version of chocolate.
22. What is the one thing your protagonist fears most?
Being wrong.
23. What does your protagonist want more than anything else in the world?
Wealth, fame, and social recognition.
24. What is your protagonist’s favorite band? Song? Type of music?
I think if it were to apply to now, it would have to be Three Days Grace – Are You Ready?
26. What is your protagonist’s favorite book and why?
Really, anything. She can’t read, but seeing words on a page awes her.
27. What is your protagonist’s favorite season?
Bounty season.
28. What places, other than where he or she lives now, has your protagonist lived or visited on vacation? Which one was his or her favorite and why?
Amsterdam, because she felt connected to it somewhat. It’s chaotic and unpredictable, and really, that’s where people like her go. It’s such a dark place. She hasn’t been anywhere else on vacation, though Amsterdam was really for an investigation.
29. What does your protagonist’s house look like? What is hanging on your protagonist’s bedroom walls?
It’s a three-room apartment in the slummish part of town, and it’s only barely furnished. It’s almost uncannily neat, although that’s usually the maid’s doing.
30. What is the best thing that ever happened to your protagonist?
Her job. It distracts her.
31. What is the worst thing that ever happened to your protagonist?
The scar.
32. What makes your protagonist most uncomfortable?
Calm captives. It bothers her.
33. Describe how your protagonist speaks. Does he or her have a lisp? An accent? Does your protagonist use a lot of slang, or end every sentence with “okay,” etc.?
She speaks with a tinge of an accent, almost British, but not; something you would expect a college librarian to talk with. She curses on seldom occasions.
12. If a song played every time your protagonist walked into a room, what song would it be?
Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around…Comes Around Interlude
Happy 2010!
